Tata Motors has appointed Shailesh Chandra as the new MD & CEO, effective October 1, 2025. Leading both the electric and passenger vehicle divisions, Chandra’s leadership aims to accelerate Tata’s growth in the EV market and beyond.
Tata Motors has appointed Shailesh Chandra as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025, for a three-year term. Chandra, who currently heads Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, will continue to lead the company’s electric vehicle division alongside his new responsibilities.
This leadership change coincides with Tata Motors’ strategic restructuring, which includes the demerger of its commercial vehicle business into a separate entity, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles Ltd (TMLCV). Girish Wagh, formerly an executive director at Tata Motors, will assume the role of Managing Director and CEO of TMLCV.
Chandra’s appointment underscores Tata Motors’ commitment to strengthening its passenger and electric vehicle segments. With a background in mechanical engineering from IIT Varanasi and an MBA from SP Jain Institute, Chandra has been instrumental in leading Tata’s electric vehicle initiatives. His leadership was pivotal during the pandemic, helping to revive growth and establish Tata Motors as a leader in the EV market.
The company also announced Dhiman Gupta as the new Chief Financial Officer, effective November 17, 2025, succeeding P.B. Balaji, who will become the CEO of Jaguar Land Rover.
These strategic appointments position Tata Motors to navigate the evolving automotive landscape and capitalize on opportunities in the electric mobility sector.
