Rapido rolls out Ownly, a pilot food delivery app in Bengaluru featuring a zero-commission model and affordable delivery fees, challenging major players like Swiggy and Zomato.
Rapido just launched a pilot food delivery app called Ownly, now live in Koramangala, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout. That means the ride-hailing giant is jumping straight into the busy food delivery game, aiming to toss a little spice into an app-bowl already simmering with players like Swiggy and Zomato.
The cool twist is Ownly’s zero-commission model for restaurants. Instead of demanding a hefty slice of the bill, Rapido charges a flat delivery fee—no surprises—so the restaurants get to keep more of the dough. Plus, Ownly promises “no hidden charges” and boasts “offline prices” with most menu items setting you back no more than ₹150, making it a tempting pick for every rupee-watching eater. Trending brands like Wow!, Eatfit, Krispy Kreme, and Faasos already serve menus on the platform.
As for pricing, it slides up with your order’s value. Orders ₹100 or under pay a delivery fee of ₹10 (that’s ₹20 for you, the customer). Orders between ₹100 and ₹400 incur a ₹25 delivery fee plus GST, while the ₹400-plus crowd pays ₹50. The entire fleet of existing Rapido two-wheelers handles delivery, using their already zip-happy riders to keep the food flying.
This pilot kick-off comes after many months of talks with the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), which backs lower-cost options to the steep commissions set by the big food delivery apps. Ownly’s early test seeks to deliver food at a lower price and give restaurants a fairer deal by keeping more of the revenue.
Rapido is now adding food delivery to its ride-hailing and auto services, trying to copy its transport success. The goal is to give customers and restaurants in Bengaluru an affordable delivery choice that cuts costs all the way around.
