Friday, September 4, 2026: Balaji Telefilms has entered a strategic partnership with YouTube to launch five original shows. The initial slate will comprise around 200 episodes in total. This move marks a broader push by the entertainment company towards digital-first television content.
According to the company’s press release, this partnership brings together Ekta Kapoor’s creative direction and intellectual property with YouTube’s global distribution and monetisation capabilities. Ekta Kapoor, Joint Managing Director of Balaji Telefilms, will lead the creative vision for these shows. She will also retain full ownership of the intellectual property. YouTube, on the other hand, will act as the distribution and monetisation platform, supporting the shows through advertising and brand partnerships.
The upcoming slate includes a mix of returning titles and fresh stories. It features Haq Se Season 2, Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai Season 4, and Phir Pyar Ki Yeh Kahani Suno. Alongside these, the company has other projects currently under development that are expected to join the lineup later. This blend of familiar names and new stories is meant to keep both loyal fans and new viewers interested.
All the shows will be produced in 4K resolution. This puts them in a strong position for viewing on both large television screens and connected TV devices. The company describes this content as digital-first, yet built on a TV-scale production style, blending the storytelling approach of mainstream television with formats suited for online viewing. The shows will be made available globally, not just for Indian audiences.
This partnership comes at a time when video viewing habits in India are shifting fast towards connected television, often called CTV. As more households watch YouTube directly on their television sets, this shift opens a new route for long-form scripted content that goes beyond traditional broadcast television or subscription-based streaming platforms.
Neither Balaji Telefilms nor YouTube has disclosed financial details related to the deal. This includes information on production funding or how revenue will be shared between the two companies. Despite the lack of financial disclosure, industry observers note that this deal gives Balaji Telefilms an additional distribution channel, while letting it keep the intellectual property rights on its own books. At the same time, it gives YouTube access to premium scripted programming that it can monetise against its fast-growing CTV audience.
This is not Balaji’s first move into YouTube-led content. The company had already launched its own YouTube originals channel earlier, where it released two shows and was working on rolling out three more. Company leadership had earlier shared plans to produce six to eight advertiser-funded shows on YouTube during 2026 alone, and said the company had already broken even and made profits through this model. This new five-show partnership builds further on that existing momentum.
Fans looking to follow updates on these new shows can subscribe to the @TheIndianKDrramas channel on YouTube. The channel is expected to share trailers, behind-the-scenes content, and details about upcoming premieres. Reports suggest the first batch of these originals is likely to roll out during the upcoming festive season, timing the launch with a period when audience engagement with entertainment content typically rises across India.
