Friday, September 4, 2026: Flipkart has launched a microdrama vertical inside its shopping app. The e-commerce giant has entered this fast-growing segment through a partnership with Tencent-backed storytelling platform Pratilipi and media company Terribly Tiny Tales, known as TTT. This new offering signals Flipkart’s growing push to blend entertainment, discovery, and commerce for younger consumers.
The new microdrama vertical has been placed inside Flipkart’s main app under a section called “Play”. This Play tab is not entirely new. It already houses “Explore”, which is Flipkart’s content-led shopping discovery platform. Now, a dedicated microdrama vertical called “Drama” has been added alongside it. Reports suggest the move is aimed at increasing user engagement and time spent on the platform, especially ahead of the festive shopping season, which is a crucial period for e-commerce companies in India.
The Drama section currently features titles such as CEO Se Romeo, Contract Marriage, Boss Bahu, Ek Ladki Do Insaan, Elayichi, KHEER, Mr Aditi, Nakli Pati Asli Crorepati, and Ishq Ibadat. These short shows span genres like drama, action, and comedy. The content also includes performances by known actors such as Anupam Kher, Rasika Dugal, and Mandira Bedi. The feed is currently populated with shows from TTT and Double Tap Films, which is Pratilipi’s in-house microdrama studio.
Flipkart describes this new offering as short stories designed for users to watch during brief gaps in their day. The section is organised into different shelves to help users discover new shows easily. These include categories like “Must watch”, “Today’s top pick for you”, “Recommended Favourites”, and “Continue Watching”. This structure gives Flipkart several ways to push content in front of users, rather than depending on people to search for shows on their own.
Besides TTT and Pratilipi, Flipkart is also expected to feature content from Pinkvilla. This is a digital entertainment and infotainment outlet in which Flipkart took a majority stake back in September 2025, for an estimated ₹70 to 80 crore. That acquisition was aimed at expanding Flipkart’s content footprint and strengthening its connection with Gen Z and millennial audiences. Bringing Pinkvilla’s content into the microdrama section adds another layer to Flipkart’s overall entertainment push.
This move places Flipkart directly into a fast-growing part of India’s digital entertainment market. India’s short-form entertainment segment is expected to reach a value of around $1.5 billion by the end of 2026. In this space, Flipkart will now compete with other major players like JioHotstar, Kuku TV, and Story TV, all of whom already offer similar short-form drama content to Indian audiences.
What makes Flipkart’s approach different is that this microdrama service sits inside an already established e-commerce app, rather than functioning as a separate standalone platform. Industry watchers believe Flipkart’s real opportunity may go beyond just keeping users engaged longer. The company could eventually turn this content into an advertising surface, allowing brands to place products directly inside storylines or pay for product placements within the shows.
The bigger idea behind this launch is Flipkart’s content-to-commerce strategy. The company wants shopping and entertainment to sit closer together inside one single app. For instance, if someone is watching a microdrama and a character on screen is seen using or mentioning a product, the viewer could potentially browse or buy that product without ever leaving the Flipkart app. This kind of blending between watching and shopping is central to why Flipkart is making this move now.
