DBS Bank India has appointed Nitin Chengappa to lead its wealth management business, strengthening its push in the affluent banking segment.
Chengappa joined DBS in July and has been confirmed by the bank as managing director and head of treasuries business and wealth management in India. He reports to Ambuj Chandna, who heads DBS’ consumer banking business in India.
Before moving to DBS, Chengappa spent nearly a decade at Standard Chartered in India, where he most recently led affluent distribution and the branch network. He also spent more than 10 years at HSBC earlier in his career, giving him deep experience across retail banking, affluent clients, and wealth-related products.
The appointment comes as Indian banks compete more aggressively for wealthy customers, who are looking for tailored investment advice, premium service, and more sophisticated financial planning. For DBS, bringing in a seasoned private banking executive signals that wealth management will remain an important growth lever in India.
Chengappa’s background in affluent distribution and premium banking should help DBS refine how it serves newly wealthy customers and high-net-worth families. It also reflects the broader trend of universal banks investing more heavily in wealth platforms as India’s affluent market expands.
