Sony Pictures Networks India has appointed Ankit Pandey as Group Head – Ad Sales, Sports. The move marks his return to the Sony family for a second stint, as he takes on a leadership role focused on the network’s sports advertising business.
Pandey joins SPNI from JioStar, where he served as Associate Director – Sports, managing advertising initiatives across television and digital platforms. During his nearly two-year tenure, he worked with advertisers, agencies and internal teams to develop commercial opportunities around sports content.
His earlier association with SPNI lasted from January 2021 to May 2023. During this period, he worked within the network’s commercial operations and gained experience in sports advertising, client partnerships and revenue development. Pandey has also worked with Viacom18, adding to his background across India’s competitive television and sports media ecosystem.
In his new role, Pandey will be responsible for leading sports ad sales at SPNI. His mandate is expected to include developing advertising solutions, strengthening relationships with brands and media agencies, and creating value from the network’s sports programming across broadcast and digital platforms.
The sports advertising market has become increasingly important for broadcasters, with live events offering brands high engagement, real-time relevance and access to large audiences. Advertisers are also seeking integrated packages that combine television visibility with digital extensions, social engagement and data-led audience targeting.
Pandey’s experience across both SPNI and JioStar gives him an understanding of different commercial models and advertiser expectations. His return comes as SPNI continues to build its sports business and explore opportunities across its television and digital properties.
With his cross-platform experience and established industry relationships, Pandey is expected to contribute to the network’s sports revenue ambitions and strengthen its engagement with brands seeking impactful associations through live sports.
