Axis Bank has appointed Rajeev Mantri as its new Chief Financial Officer, with the appointment taking effect from September 28, 2026. The move fills the vacancy left after Puneet Sharma resigned from the role in June 2026 to pursue the next phase of his professional journey.
Mantri is currently Executive President and CFO at Bandhan Bank, where he has been handling finance leadership responsibilities. His appointment was approved by Axis Bank’s board on July 18, based on recommendations from the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the Audit Committee.
The bank has noted that Mantri meets the eligibility norms set out under the Reserve Bank of India’s Commercial Banks – Governance Directions, 2025 for CFO appointments. That compliance aspect is important, as senior finance roles in banking require both technical expertise and regulatory alignment.
Mantri brings close to three decades of experience across banking and financial services, with exposure to finance, strategy, capital management, regulatory engagement, and business transformation. His background also includes roles at Citibank, Standard Chartered, and Mashreq, giving him experience across India, Singapore, and the UAE.
For Axis Bank, this appointment is more than a routine leadership change. The CFO role is central to capital planning, financial discipline, and investor confidence, especially in a competitive and tightly regulated banking environment. Bringing in a seasoned finance executive from another major lender suggests the bank is aiming for continuity, stability, and strong execution at the top of its finance function.
Rajeev Mantri’s arrival will likely be watched closely by the market as Axis Bank strengthens its leadership bench for the next phase of growth.r gesture while questioning why care should require compromise at all.
