United Breweries Limited (UBL), a HEINEKEN company, has appointed Shonali Chakravarty as Communications, Sustainability & CSR Leader for India, bringing together corporate communications, reputation, sustainability and stakeholder engagement under a single mandate.
At UBL, Chakravarty will oversee an integrated portfolio that spans corporate communications, brand reputation, sustainability strategy, CSR programmes and broader stakeholder engagement, reflecting the growing strategic role of communications in shaping responsible business narratives. The appointment signals UBL’s intent to align its communications function more closely with its sustainability and citizenship agenda, as the company navigates evolving regulatory, social and consumer expectations around alcohol brands.
Chakravarty joins UBL after a six-year stint at Lenovo, where she most recently led enterprise communications for the Asia Pacific region across its Infrastructure Solutions Group and Solutions and Services Group. Her earlier experience includes roles at Diageo, where she worked in corporate affairs and public relations, as well as positions at agencies such as Genesis Burson-Marsteller and Edelman, giving her a mix of in-house and advisory perspectives on brand, crisis and reputation management.
UBL, known for its flagship Kingfisher brand and a wide portfolio of beer and spirits offerings, has been increasingly focused on responsible drinking, water stewardship and community initiatives as part of its broader corporate strategy. By placing communications, sustainability and CSR under one leader, the company is positioning Chakravarty at the intersection of reputation, trust and corporate impact as it seeks to strengthen its social licence to operate in a highly regulated category.
