For Hair Loss Awareness Month in August, science-backed hair health brand Traya has rolled out a digital awareness campaign with actor Rajkummar Rao, urging people to move beyond panic or denial and learn a simple at-home check for excessive hair fall. The campaign centres on Traya’s “hair pull test”, a one-minute screening designed to help users distinguish between normal shedding and potentially active hair loss.
In the campaign film, Rajkummar demonstrates the test by gently pulling a section of around 40–50 strands of hair. According to Traya, if fewer than five strands come away, shedding is generally within the normal range; if six or more strands come away consistently, it may signal active hair loss that warrants further evaluation. The creative deliberately avoids quick-fix promises, instead positioning early recognition and root-cause diagnosis as the first meaningful step.
“Hair loss affects millions of us, but most people don’t know when it’s time to take it seriously. What I liked about this test is how simple it is; anyone can do it at home in a minute. Awareness is the first step, and if catching the signs early helps even a few people get the right guidance sooner, that’s a real difference.”

“People tend to swing between two extremes: ignoring hair loss until it’s severe or panicking at the first few strands. This campaign is about the middle ground: knowing the difference between normal shedding and active hair loss. The hair pull test is an easy first check, but it’s only a signal. The real answer lies in identifying the root cause through proper evaluation, not chasing quick fixes.”

The push arrives alongside Traya’s broader Hair Loss Awareness Month narrative, built on data from its 5-lakh-man study linking hair loss to stress, sleep, dandruff-related scalp inflammation, gut issues and nutritional deficiencies. By pairing a credible messenger like Rajkummar with a practical self-check, Traya aims to convert awareness into action encouraging users to pause, assess and seek appropriate, root-cause-led guidance rather than relying on surface-level remedies.
