WhatsApp’s Bandra-Worli Sea Link campaign projects strong privacy messages, reinforcing secure and private messaging with end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp recently turned Mumbai’s famous Bandra-Worli Sea Link into a moving canvas for a powerful privacy message campaign. WhatsApp and Meta used advanced projection mapping technology to show bright images on the cables of the sea link. These images included important phrases like “Message Privately” and “Even WhatsApp can’t read your private messages.” This outdoor advertising campaign visually supported WhatsApp’s main promise of safe, private messaging on a landmark that stands for connection and link.
The goal of the campaign was to ease users’ worries about digital privacy by showing that WhatsApp is a safe platform that protects messages with end-to-end encryption, making sure that no one, not even WhatsApp itself, can see the content of private conversations. This visual statement on one of Mumbai’s busiest and most well-known pieces of infrastructure linked the idea of physical connectivity with digital security.
The projection, done with creative partners Throwback and Hyperlink, got a lot of attention from the public. It used bright green and white lights that are the same colours as WhatsApp’s brand colours. It was part of a bigger global effort to show WhatsApp’s dedication to privacy and safe communication for its more than three billion users around the world.
This project is happening at the same time as WhatsApp’s rollout of better privacy features in 2025. These include Advanced Chat Privacy settings that let users control their messages in both group and individual chats, such as stopping chat exports and stopping AI tools from using chats without permission. The Bandra-Worli campaign was not only a powerful public reminder, but it also fit with WhatsApp’s larger goal of giving people the ability to send private messages in a world that is becoming more connected.
WhatsApp made it clear that it was committed to protecting user messages and building trust in digital communication by putting these privacy promises on Mumbai’s most visible infrastructure. This campaign is a great example of how to combine new digital marketing with powerful messaging to connect with people in cities.
