Legendary adman Piyush Pandey has passed away at 70, remembered for iconic campaigns like Fevicol’s “Bus,” Cadbury Dairy Milk’s “Kuch Khaas Hai,” Vodafone’s ZooZoos, and Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.
Piyush Pandey, the Father of Indian Advertising, is magnificent with a legacy of 70, standing unmatched in the creative vocation. In a brilliant span of 40 years, most of which he served as Chief Creative Officer and Executive Chairman of Ogilvy India, he transformed the Indian advertising industry, incorporating storytelling with a sense of warmth, native language, and emotion. Pandey also transcended the Western English advertising campaigns to relate Indian stories that spanned an age-old Indian audience.
A Jyotiraditya-campus municipality and a student of Sawai Mansingh College, he also played the prestigious Ranji Trophy cricket, before joining Ogilvy in 1982 as an advertising trainee, moving to creative, and then global leadership. He shaped narrative not just in consumer products, but in context of the social, political, and cohesion advertising communication for and in the India. He was bestowed the most prestigious industry awards nationally and globally, for over a decade, including the Padma Shri, Clio Lifetime Achievement, and the Cannes Lions’ Lion of St. Mark, for making Ogilvy India the advertising agency of the nation.
