Speciality Restaurants Limited, the operator of iconic Indian dining brands such as Mainland China and Oh! Calcutta, has appointed Avik Chatterjee as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 1, 2026. The move marks a formal leadership transition within the Chatterjee family, with founder Anjan Chatterjee stepping back from the CEO role to continue as Chairman and Managing Director, while Avik takes charge of day-to-day operations and growth strategy.
Avik Chatterjee, a graduate of Kingston College London, joined the company in 2015 as Head of Innovation and was inducted into the board in 2020. Over the years, he has played a hands-on role in revitalising flagship brands, launching new concepts such as Episode and Gong, and leading Speciality Restaurants’ foray into the quick-service restaurant segment with the gourmet burger brand Walters. In his first earnings call as CEO, he outlined priorities to strengthen existing brands, expand into the right markets and develop new formats aligned with evolving consumer preferences.
The appointment comes as the company reported strong Q1 FY27 results, with consolidated profit jumping around 39% year-on-year, supported by robust same-store sales growth and rapid scaling of Walters. Avik highlighted Walters’ 345% revenue spike and the brand’s expansion as a key growth lever, alongside continued momentum in fine dining and confectionery formats.
Anjan Chatterjee described the transition as a blend of continuity and fresh thinking, noting that Avik brings entrepreneurial energy and a deep understanding of today’s diners while upholding the group’s core values around food quality and hospitality. As CEO, Avik is expected to accelerate outlet expansion, deepen delivery and cloud-kitchen capabilities, and sharpen the portfolio around high-growth, high-margin concepts.
