Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has elevated Varidhi Agarwal to Associate Vice President and West Region Head for Sony Vizha, its upcoming Tamil general entertainment channel (GEC). The move places Agarwal at the forefront of the network’s monetisation strategy for the new regional feed, with responsibility for advertising revenues and relationships with brands and agencies in the western market ahead of the channel’s launch.
Agarwal has been with SPNI for over 12 years, working across ad sales, monetisation and agency relations for the network’s portfolio of channels. Most recently, she served as Associate Vice President – Agency Relations and Special Partnerships for the network channels, building and managing key partnerships with media agencies and advertisers.
In her new capacity, Agarwal will oversee the West Region business for Sony Vizha, a critical market for national advertisers and a key testing ground for the channel’s brand propositions. She will be tasked with translating SPNI’s content strategy for Sony Vizha into compelling advertising solutions, leveraging the network’s existing strengths in reality, fiction and sports to attract marquee brand partnerships.
The appointment comes as SPNI ramps up its southern expansion, with Sony Vizha positioned as a major bet in the competitive Tamil GEC space alongside established players. The channel has already secured operating licenses from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and is lining up flagship shows such as MasterChef Tamil and Tamil Idol to drive early traction. By promoting a seasoned internal leader like Agarwal, SPNI is signalling confidence in its ability to convert its content investments into sustainable ad revenue in the region.
