This August, ZEE5 India and Amagi will launch free, always-on FAST channels on connected TVs, providing consumers with easy access to carefully chosen programming without the need for a subscription.
In partnership with cloud-based media technology company Amagi, ZEE5 India is preparing to increase its digital presence by introducing free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels on connected TVs. This initiative, which is set to launch in August 2025, intends to offer Indian viewers ongoing, carefully chosen entertainment without requiring a paid subscription.
With a lineup of well-known series, films, and unique content from ZEE5’s extensive library, the new FAST channels will provide a linear streaming experience akin to traditional television. ZEE5 is capitalising on the growing trend of smart TV usage in India, where viewers are favouring more convenient, free-to-watch options, by making these channels accessible on connected TVs.
ZEE5 will be able to effectively deliver these channels thanks to Amagi’s cutting-edge cloud-based platform, integrating dynamic ad insertions to generate revenue opportunities while preserving a seamless viewing experience. Through this collaboration, ZEE5 will be able to reach more people, including those who might not have access to subscription-based over-the-top (OTT) services but are still looking for high-quality entertainment.
Viewers now enjoy a combination of on-demand and linear programming, reflecting the changing nature of digital content consumption. ZEE5 aims to attract viewers who want a more relaxed experience, akin to traditional TV, but with the advantages of digital streaming by providing always-on channels.
With this launch, ZEE5 becomes one of the increasing number of streaming platforms globally that have adopted FAST channels as a crucial tactic to boost user engagement and diversify sources of income. With the partnership with Amagi, ZEE5 is positioned as a leader in India’s connected TV market, offering consumers more accessible and reasonably priced entertainment options.
