redBus has launched ‘Freedom Bottle’, an Independence Day campaign that shifts focus from historical narratives to a practical travel concern: women’s hydration during long-distance bus journeys. The campaign highlights how limited restroom access on routes often forces women to restrict water intake, affecting their health and comfort while travelling.
The initiative comes as India celebrates its 80th Independence Day, marking a departure from redBus’s previous ‘Route to 47’ campaigns that connected youth with freedom struggle locations through Google Maps integrations. Instead, ‘Freedom Bottle’ addresses a real-world mobility challenge that disproportionately affects women travellers, particularly on overnight and intercity routes where restroom stops are infrequent or unhygienic.
The campaign spotlights bus operators that have partnered with redBus to improve restroom facilities and accessibility, encouraging travellers to choose operators committed to women’s comfort. By featuring buses with better amenities, redBus aims to drive operator accountability while empowering women to make informed booking decisions. The platform’s ‘women’s funnel’ feature, which allows female travellers to filter buses with enhanced safety and comfort measures, plays a central role in this initiative.
With women’s bus travel growing 136% since 2019 and Gen Z women accounting for 60% of female travellers, the campaign aligns with redBus’s broader strategy to make intercity travel more inclusive and comfortable for women across India.
