WPP Media has promoted Shekhar Banerjee to President, Client Solutions, South Asia, effective immediately, succeeding Ajay Gupte who steps down after a successful tenure. In this expanded role, Banerjee will oversee integrated client solutions across GroupM agencies including Mindshare, Wavemaker, and EssenceMediacom, focusing on data-driven strategies, innovation, and growth for marquee portfolios in the region.
Banerjee, previously Managing Partner at Wavemaker, brings 25+ years of media leadership. His career spans driving HUL’s media transformation at Mindshare (2018-2022), pioneering programmatic and e-commerce media solutions, and scaling performance mandates. At Wavemaker since 2022, he led Unilever’s South Asia business, blending commerce media, CTV, and AI optimization for measurable impact. Earlier roles at ZenithOptimedia honed his expertise in traditional-to-digital transitions.
Ajay Gupte, reporting to Ravi Kiran, contributed significantly to WPP Media’s South Asia expansion. Banerjee now reports to Kiran, Chief Client Officer, ensuring seamless continuity amid rising retail media and addressable TV trends.
