Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited has appointed Annkur Kapila as Executive Vice President – Sports Strategy, Rights and Business Development, giving him a wider mandate across the company’s growing sports business. In his new role, Kapila will oversee sports strategy, rights acquisition, commercial development, and strategic partnerships for the network.
Kapila moves into the position after serving as Executive Vice President and National Head of Sales at ZEE5. In that role, he led the streaming platform’s national sales operations and worked with internal teams, advertisers, and business partners to support commercial growth. His experience in sales and monetisation is expected to be valuable as Zee develops new revenue opportunities around sports content.
His new responsibilities will include identifying sports rights opportunities, assessing potential acquisitions, creating partnerships, and developing strategies to expand Zee’s presence across broadcast and digital platforms. He will also support the next stage of growth for the company’s sports properties, including Unite8 Sports and ZEE5.
The appointment comes as Zee sharpens its focus on sports and looks to build a broader portfolio beyond conventional entertainment programming. The company has been expanding its presence in football and other sporting categories while exploring opportunities that can attract younger audiences and create new advertising and subscription-led revenue streams.
Kapila brings extensive experience from across the media and entertainment industry. Before his recent stint at ZEE5, he served as Vice President – Sports Gamification at JioHotstar, where he led the platform’s interactive sports engagement initiative. He has also spent more than 14 years across multiple leadership roles at Zee, covering sales, brand solutions, programming, content acquisition, Zee Studios, and integrated platforms.
His return to Zee earlier this year was followed by a quick elevation into a strategic leadership role, reflecting the company’s confidence in his understanding of sports audiences, commercial partnerships, and media platforms. Kapila’s appointment is expected to help Zee connect rights acquisition with stronger content distribution, audience engagement, and business growth.
